Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

BJJ revolves around the concept that a smaller person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger opponent by using leverage and weight distribution. Groundwork such as holds, and submissions transition to victory. BJJ training can be used for sport grappling and self-defense situations. Sparring plays a major role in training and student development. BJJ can also be used as a method of promoting physical fitness, building character, and as a way of life

Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program teaches students how to control a resisting, possibly even larger opponent, through the use of various techniques, rather than brute force.

As a Law Enforcement Officer of 14 years, when I saw the events of 2020 unfolding in our country, I continued to see a pattern of officers not being trained in effective defensive tactics and controlling combative suspects, myself included. I decided I owed it to my family to begin training on my own in August of 2020. I found a home at MAMMA and quickly felt like part of a new family. The detail of instruction, patience, and knowledge that Frank and the other instructors provide are second to none. I was 36 y/o when I started training and wish I would have began this journey decades ago. The exercise, stress relief, and family atmosphere is such an important part of my life now. You're never too old to begin this journey and I hope other Law Enforcement Officers begin taking advantage of this potentially life saving skill.
